Local competitors have their eyes on the prize as Flat Track Canada come back to Woodstock
WOODSTOCK - A few Woodstock residents are ready to put on a show in front of a hometown crowd when Flat Track Canada returns to the city. This weekend the Woodstock Fairgrounds will host a half mile flat track race featuring motorcycles with competitors travelling from as far as the United States to take part.
10 year old Boyd Deadman from Woodstock has been racing in the series since 2011. He spoke to Heart FM about the upcoming weekend and how the US competitors will fair north of the border. ''I'm feeling confident because most of them ride on clay tracks. With clay tracks you can get a blue line and that is really sticky if you ride that line. The difference from that and cushion, cushion is really loose and you can slide on it and you spin a lot more."
Boyd's sister, 13 year old Teagan Deadman, will also attempt to win it all and is looking forward to racing at home. "I think it will be exciting. It will probably be the same as every other one it will just be at home, and it will just be as fun as every other race. Everyone rides different but the Americans are really fast."
Another local will be headed to the track to show their stuff - Bentley Thistlethwaite is also competing this weekend.
Competition will be fierce, as the purse is over $4 000.
The action kicks off tomorrow at the Woodstock Fairgrounds. Gates open at 10 a.m., the cut off for sign in is 12 p.m., and the first youth heats start at 1:30 p.m.
Admission is $15.
