Flows are expected to peak on the Nith River in New Hamburg on Friday afternoon and in Ayr late Saturday morning.
UPDATE: A Flood Warning has been updated for:
- Nith River (New Hamburg): Flows peaked on Friday afternoon in New Hamburg and will recede but remain high through the weekend. Ice remains intact upstream of New Hamburg dam resulting in flooding on Milton Street. Wilmot flood co-ordinators are asked to continue to monitor conditions due to the risk of ice jam flooding.
- Nith River (Ayr): Flows in the Nith River through Ayr are expected to peak on Saturday afternoon based on the current forecast, continue to monitor warning zone 1 and be prepared to warn zone 2.
NEW HAMBURG/AYR - The Grand River Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning on the Nith River in the communities of New Hamburg and Ayr.
A weather system is expected to bring mild temperatures and rain across the Grand River watershed on Thursday and Friday which is expected to melt much of the snow pack, resulting in increased runoff into local waterways. Some local waterways also have intact ice sheets, which may break up and shift during this event, increasing the risk of ice jam flooding. There remains some uncertainty in the current track of this weather system which may impact the timing and amount of rainfall and snow melt associated with this event.
Flows in the Nith River through New Hamburg are expected to peak on Friday afternoon based on the current forecast. Flows are expected to peak late Saturday morning in Ayr. Municipal Flood Coordinators are advised to warn residents in Warning Zone 1.
