It's become a Thanksgiving tradition in Woodstock.
Two local grocery stores are trying to help set the table again for those less fortunate in the community.
Sobey's and Foodland between October 1st, and the 10th, are matching your donations at the till to Operation Sharing's Food for Friends program.
Foodland Owner Chris Chapman
"When a customer comes in and they would like to add a quarter to their bill, we'll match that and make it a 50 cent donation. If a customer comes in a says ha, I'll show you and donate five bucks, well we will step up to the plate and match five bucks as well."
"Last year we raised over $11,000 for Food for Friends. We are coming into a time of year where they could really use an extra push, you know Thanksgiving, Christmas. This helps them top up their funds so they can support families at this family time of year."
"The program is set up such so every penny that the customer donates, every penny that we are matching goes straight through to the people that need it. It is not eaten up by administrative costs or anything like that. It's a terrific program."
Food for Friends gives out food cards to those in need, which allows them to shop for fresh grocery items in local stores, rather than just relying on canned goods from food banks.
