Former John Deere Building Sold

Around 17 acres of industrial property has sold to a local businessman. The former John Deere building on Devonshire is now owned by Bill Scheltema. The City's Development Officer Brad Hammond says they're happy it will be owned locally. "We're always happy when we see a vacant industrial building get filled. It's a good sign that the economy is healthy and that things are growing and changing. Scheltema Trailers, they've had a long history as a mobile source in this area and we're happy to see them continue that history here," said Hammond. Hammond said the size of the property is likely why it took nearly six years to sell. The building is around 60 years old dating back to its founder, Timberjack. It then became John Deere until it shut down in August 2006. The buyer says he hopes to move in sooner than later.
