A Toronto musical act will be performing a by donation concert tonight, with the proceeds benefiting the Brad Masters Memorial Scholarship Fund.
WOODSTOCK - A WCI music alumni is returning to the Friendly City for a concert in memory of her music mentor.
Lili Ahopelto was a student of Brad Masters leading up to her graduation in 2013. She now studies at the University of Toronto.
"He was a mentor for me in my musical journey and inspired me and helped me in my preparations for going off to study music in university. He was just a really fun and hilarious teacher who was always making jokes and made everyone feel welcome in his classroom."
She now studies at the University of Toronto. That's where she met violist Carolyn Farnand and thus the Sisko Duo was born.
"He was a violist himself so it's very exciting to bring Carolyn to Woodstock to play this concert and play on the instrument that Brad was an instrumentalist of himself."
Masters passed away last year, and the Brad Masters Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in his name. It will go to an Oxford County high school student pursuing post-secondary education in either music or woodworking, Master's other passion.
Donations will be collected at Knox Presbyterian Church tonight, when the show gets underway at 7:30pm. You can find more information on the Facebook event page.
