The Woodstock Curling Club and RBC are teaming up for a free "Try It" Open House.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Curling Club is inviting everyone to stop by and try curling for free!
President Judy Farlow says they hope this event will encourage kids to get out and get moving. "We have a Try Curling open house in partnership with RBC Sports Day in Canada. So as a curling club we got a grant from RBC's Learn to Play Program which we're just thrilled with. It helps us invest in the kids and families curling program. And part of that grant comes with sponsorship of the Sports Day in Canada."
The Woodstock Curling Club previously accepted a grant from the RBC's Learn to Play Program worth $10 000.
"It's for anybody who's ever seen curling on TV or just thought this was something they'd like to do," says Farlow. "It's very much for anyone who's never tried it before or anybody who used to curl and would like to come back and try it again. So we've got free instruction, free food, prizes - it'll just be a full day of entertainment."
She says this is a fun sport all ages to get into - it might not be as fast paced as something like hockey, but it does require a good deal of mental agility to be a truly great player. "I mean, you're walking on ice so there is a little bit of concentration and focus that has to take place but yeah, very much we want to encourage kids to get started and it's the kind of sport that if you start young and even if you go away from it for a while, you can always come back it."
The "Try It" Open House is Saturday November 21st from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the club on 114 Beale Street.
