Oxford County is offering a new way to keep grease out of our drains.
OXFORD COUNTY - New FOG cups are a free way to store your kitchen fats, oils and grease.
When kitchen waste is poured down the drain it can cause clogging of pipes and a costly plumbing bill at a future date.
Deb Goudreau, Manager of Water and Wastewater Services in Oxford County, explains the message of the cups.
"The message we're trying to convey is that fats oils and greases should not be put down your sink or your toilets, they should be stored separately and disposed of separately."
Goudreau also adds that the cups help save yearly costs.
"The cups are actually an education and outreach program and we have found neighbouring municipalities that have used these cups have found that they are actually able to reduce substantially the yearly cost incurred to repair either private plumbing or the collection system because of these blockages."
The cups are made available through the Your Turn program.
You can pick up your FOG cups at the Oxford County Administration Building (21 Reeve St, Woodstock) or at the Oxford County Waste Management Facility (384060 Salford Rd, Salford.)
