Freezing Rain Keeps OPP Busy

The Oxford OPP responded to several calls for service this morning as drivers experienced a messy commute.

Oxford OPP dealt with several calls during last night's freezing rain.

Constable Stacey Culbert says it wasn't as bad as it could have been, but they did have several issues on the 401. "We certainly had a large number of calls for service coming in in regards to collisions on the highway. We did have several vehicles that ended up in the ditch or ended up crashing this morning on the 401 between Woodstock and Ingersoll, however those were all cleared up before the morning commute so that was good for anybody who had to return to work today."

Culbert encourages drivers to take their time on the roadways when snow and ice make things a little messy. "Take the time before you even leave when you're on route to your destination. Make sure to clear your vehicle of all the ice that may have accumulated and it can only take a short period of time for that to freeze up on your windshield. Make sure that you have your fluids topped up and you have your destination and route planned. Make sure you allow yourself extra time to get there. If the speed limit is posted and the road conditions are not good then you should either consider staying home or make sure you're allowing yourself extra time and even driving below that posted speed limit when the weather conditions and road conditions warrant it."

She says it comes down to a simple message - 'When you see snow, go slow.'
