A familiar face in Tillsonburg's hockey community is looking make a difference as a town councillor.
TILLSONBURG - The President of the Tillsonburg Thunder is looking to become a town councillor.
Michael Holly has been in charge of the hockey club for 11 years now. He has also spearheaded Tillsonburg's Ribfest over the past four years.
Outside of the hockey scene, he has been the President of Holly Transportation Services for almost 20 years.
He was a good friend of former councillor Brian Stephenson. When he passed away this past July, his impact on the community inspired Holly to enter politics.
"I just want to use my talents to make Tillsonburg better. They say you'll never make anything perfect, but if you have made it better than you have done a good thing."
If he is voted in next month, there are a lot of issues Holly would like to address. This includes local crime.
"I don't know what the mandates are for the police, but if they can sit at a corner to make sure we stop at a stop sign they should be able to stop break and enters into cars and homes."
Holly says we have a lack of apartments and buildings in the town. He adds possible solutions could include promoting basement apartments and expanding Tillsonburg's boarders.
Holly would also like to see a more detailed Parks and Recreation plan in the near future.
