Ottawa has temporarily suspended fuel excise taxes until September 7th.
CANADA - Canadians should be saving money at the gas pumps starting today.
Ottawa has temporarily suspended fuel excise taxes until Labour Day, which should save us 10 cents per litre of gas and four cents on a litre of diesel. Prime Minister Mark Carney made the announcement last week, calling it a responsible and temporary measure amid surging energy costs caused by the US and Israeli war in Iran.
The Conservatives say pausing the taxes for the spring and summer won't be enough. They believe the suspension should remain in effect for the remainder of 2026.
As of 6:50 a.m. in Woodstock, the price of gas at the Pioneer at the corner of Norwich Ave and Pavey Street was 156.9. We also heard reports that the Centex at the corner of Devonshire Ave and Huron Street was 152.6.
