Gaudio Guilty

Long arm of the law finally catches up with notorious Woodstock car scammer

A man once deemed "Woodstock's Most Wanted" has pleaded guilty.

Former used car salesman, 54-year-old Eugenio Gaudio, pleaded guilty Monday to fraud, and violating bail conditions by selling cars.

Gaudio was arrested in Montreal earlier this year, after an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Woodstock that dated back to 2011.  He was initially wanted on 28 charges.

Police say Gaudio ripped off a dozen people in Woodstock by taking their money for vehicle rentals, and not delivering them a car.  Police described Gaudio's alleged methodology, "Gaudio would charge the customers a monthly fee for the vehicles which included insurance, maintenance and a licence plate.  Within a short period of time of the customer paying a deposit, a monthly fee and taking control the vehicle there would either be an issue with the way the vehicle performed or Gaudio would take the vehicle back saying he had sold the vehicle.  Gaudio would tell the customer he would provide them with another vehicle, which in most cases did not occur.  The customer would request a refund of the money provided for time they couldn’t use the vehicle or didn’t have a vehicle, refunds were never provided."

He operated a dealership on Dundas St. in Woodstock between 2006 and 2010.

The brakes were hit on Gaudio's four day trial that was set to begin Monday, due to  issues in scheduling Crown witnesses.

Gaudio will be back in court Thursday for sentencing.
