Getting A Chance to Try Hockey For the First Time

The Ingersoll and District Minor Hockey Association is hosting a program letting kids try hockey for the very first time.

INGERSOLL - The Ingersoll District Minor Hockey Association is hosting a program giving kids a chance to get a taste of hockey.

The First Shift program is being hosted once again in Ingersoll.

Kids between 6 and 10 who have never played hockey before are eligible, and Secretary and Registrar for the Ingersoll and District Minor Hockey Association Jo-Ann Thibideau says this is a great way to get a feel for the sport.

"So it's a very good learning tool to decide whether players will like the game or not because hockey is expensive. And so we were hoping we could host the program this year and we were granted it again."

As part of the program kids will also receive gear.

"They're outfitted head to toe literally even with under armour type garments. It's all Bauer equipment - it's very good quality equipment."

The time commitment is one hour on a weekly basis for six weeks. During that time kids will be able to hit the ice and learn some hands-on skills.

The First Shift team will be at an event on October 18th to fit players with gear and give parents an overview of what to expect.

The program itself begins on October 29th and costs $199.

If you would like to sign up go to First Shift's Website.
