A GoFundMe page has raised over $10,000 for a Woodstock woman who is now confined to a wheelchair.
WOODSTOCK - A GoFundMe has been set up for a Woodstock woman and her family who is now confined to a wheelchair.
The problems first started for 26 year old Valery Ypma in the summer of 2019 when her leg started hurting while playing soccer with her family. Valery discovered she had a tumour in her spine, that turned out to be cancerous.
Her sister Kira Weiandt says the last two years have been really hard on Valery.
"Since then we have been on a journey to help her through different treatments, she had radiation last year at this time. She has gone through other ups and downs with her health over that time, she is currently going through chemotherapy, to hopefully get rid of the tumour all together."
Weiandt explains why they are trying to raise some money for the family.
"The money would go towards helping our parents, who are her main caregivers to give her a wheel chair accessible van. Valery's mobility, as she is not able to use her leg is very limited and she is confined to a wheel chair."
The family also needs to renovate the bathroom to make it wheel chair accessible. You can read more about Valery's story on her GoFundMe page.
