Some of the best ladies' fastball in the country was played in Innerkip over the weekend.
INNERKIP - Some of the best fastball players in the world were in Innerkip this weekend for the 12th annual Gord Marshall Memorial Ladies Fastball Tournament.
The tier one final saw the Qubec Rebels beat the reigning National Champions the Whitby Seniors by a score of 3-1. This was the first time in 3 tries this season the Quebec team beat the squad from Whitby. Tournament Chairmen Brad Holleck tells Heart FM it was a great weekend in Innerkip and they estimate about 1200 people showed up. "We had a very successful weekend, we had four days of absolutely beautiful weather, we had big crowds come out for the games, some exciting baseball to watch and a lot of community support."
Only one local team, Mike's Electric, made it into the playoff round. They were ousted in the quarter finals by a squad from Hamilton. Holleck says this was one of biggest crowds ever at the tournament and all of the funds raised this year will go towards the Canadian Mental Health Association of Oxford County.
