CANADA - The Prime Minister warned Canadians today about a text scam that is trying to exploit a COVID-19 Government program.
Unfortunately it is clear that some are preying on vulnerable people during the pandemic. Tech expects have warned people working from home to be careful about pop up links right now.
The text scam is in relation to the emergency response benefit. The Prime Minister is urging Canadians to use the official Government of Canada web site.
The Government has streamlined the COVID-19 benefits program and payments should arrive within weeks. The application process will start in April with payments of $2,000 a month that are expected to start 10 days later. The payments will be available for four months.
Trudeau urged Canadians to ignore any text messages about this, the Government is not going to send you a text, you will have to apply online or over the phone.
