Mayor Acchione talked about Woodstock's Canada Day celebrations and some of the big items on this week's City Council agenda.
WOODSTOCK - Some big changes could be on the horizon for the school areas in Woodstock.
Mayor Jerry Acchione says council will look over some proposed amendments to some of the traffic bylaws, which will affect College Ave Secondary School, Oliver Stephens Public School, Springbank Public School, Eastdale Public School, and Turtle Island Public School.
"Some stop signs going in, some no parking signs, and no stopping signs. There are some significant changes happening, like the four-way intersection going up near Turtle Island for example."
He adds council will also consider implementing the 40 km/hr speed limit outside of the school zones, which would extend the slower traffic area.
During this Thursday's meeting, city council will also look over four requests for Woodstock's Social and Wellbeing Reserve Fund.
Mayor Acchione tells us about two of them.
"Woodstock and District Developmental Services come forward with a request for their Full Circle Community Breakfast Hub for $34,000 and United Way Oxford has come forward representing the Oxford Supplies4Students Program for $25,000."
The Children's Aid Society is looking for $7,500 for its You Belong in Woodstock: Family Connection Package Start-up and Child & Youth Mental Wellness would like to have $3,900 for a Youth Creative Arts & Wellness Studio Proposal.
The Social and Wellbeing Reserve Fund has an annual budget of $150,000 and the money comes from the OLG Slot Reserve Fund.
This Thursday's City Council meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and it will be livestreamed on the City of Woodstock YouTube page. You can also find the meeting agenda online here.
