The Gunn's Hill Wind Farm in Norwich Township will move forward as planned.
The environmental Review Tribunal has dismissed the appeal of the Renewable Energy Approval for the Gunn's Hill Wind Farm.
This means Gunn's Hill will be allowed to move forward with their wind farm in Norwich Township which will be capable of producing enough energy to power roughly 6000 homes every year. Gunn’s Hill Wind Farm is an 18 MW wind project located in the Township of Norwich. The project consists of 10 Senvion MM92 turbines and will be the first co-operatively owned wind farm in Ontario. The wind farm should be up and running by next summer.
President of the Gunn's Hill LP Juan Anderson tells Heart FM they are excited to move forward with the project.
"This means that's the renewable energy approval remains in place for the project, the appeal has been dismissed and we can continue with construction activity."
He adds as part of the project they will be investing money back into the community.
"We have a community fund, that's available for every year of the operation of the project, that's $25,000 a year for a total of $500,000 over the life of the project and we look forward to hearing from local residents on ideas on how to allocate those funds."
The appeal was submitted by the East Oxford Community Alliance who have several concerns with the turbines moving into Norwich with the main one centred around potential health problems. They presented several arguments saying the project will cause serious harm to human health and plant and animal life.
