Health Canada Approves Pfizer Booster For Kids Aged 5-11

First COVID-19 booster to be approved for kids aged 5-11.

Health Canada has authorized the first COVID-19 booster shot for kids aged 5-11.

Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam says the Pfizer-BioNTech shot has been authorized to be used as a booster for kids in that age group.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommends kids with underlying health problems be offered a booster at least six months after their second shot.

Tam says all other kids in that age group may be offered the booster dose six months after their second dose.

To date, about 42 percent of children aged 5-11 have two doses, with all other demographics reporting a vaccine rate of more than 83 percent.
