With only five days left until Christmas, the Oxford OPP has some tips for last-minute shoppers.
OXFORD COUNTY - The OPP is sending out a reminder for those last-minute Christmas shoppers.
As people make their way out to the stores to get those gifts that are still left on their lists, there are some tips to make sure nothing gets stolen.
While shopping, always keep your wallet or purse on you, or don’t carry large amounts of cash. Make sure you get cash from recognized banking machines instead of stand-alone ATMs, as thieves use card-skimming devices to target stand-alone units.
Carrying large amounts of gifts makes you a target, so you should take them to your car and put them in your trunk. If you have an SUV or a pickup truck, place them on the floor and cover them with a blanket.
Once the gifts have been purchased, always make sure your vehicle is locked, and park it in a well-lit area. You should also, roll up the windows, keep valuables out of sight, lock your doors, and keep your keys in your pocket.
The OPP say if you follow these rules it goes a long way to make sure everyone’s holiday season is safe and enjoyable.
