Hoop Dreams' For Woodall Farm Complex

There are hoop dreams in Woodstock. A movement is starting up to have basketball courts added to plans for the city's next recreation complex in the north end. Kirk White and Dwayne Thomas will be submitting a proposal to the city in the weeks ahead, calling for some basketball courts to be added to those plans. "They've talked about everything from baseball diamonds to an in-ground pool, and a few other things, which is amazing...but the one thing I didn't here, is an actual basketball court which is one of the cheapest to maintain and one of the cheapest to play for the youth and community." White notes there are only two courts in the city not on school property, that are not in the best of shape. Thomas says they have some ideas that would support basketball in the city. "We're still doing research, and putting a design together, but we have some unique ideas that would make it something special for Woodstock." The public comment period on the Woodall Farm Complex is on until May 24th. Basketball has been a growing sport in recent years, with the addition of the Oxford Attack and Chill programs, along with a men's league and strong performances from the city's high school teams. White and Thomas organized the 1st annual "Street Mayor 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament" earlier this year at College Ave. Secondary that was a huge hit with student athletes, who have been going without extra curricular's. They are also planning on having something in place for Cowapalooza and the Downtown BIA Sidewalk Days later this year. They also thank their sponsors that helped support the recent Street Mayor Classic.
