In the most recent of a string of southern Ontario barn fires 9 horses have perished.
OTTERVILLE - Another barn fire has taken place in the province, this time in the small town of Otterville. All nine horses at Darkin Riding Stables perished in the blaze, which started around 4am yesterday.
Darlene Kinnear, the owner of the barn, just moved to the Otterville area last month. Kinnear owned 5 of the nine horses in the stable. She had bought insurance, but her policy wasn't set to come into effect until March 1st. Which means, the $50,000 in damage she reported will have to come out of her own pocket.
The stables were part of the St Thomas Elgin Mental Association because the horses had a calming effect.
Police say the fire does not appear suspicious, and there is no word on the cause.
