A forensic investigation has confirmed the human remains found less than a week ago, are those of a woman named Vanessa Anne Fotheringham.
OXFORD COUNTY - It has been six years since Vanessa Fotheringham from London was reported missing in February 2012.
Today, after a forensic investigation, OPP confirm the remains found less than a week ago at Hawkins Tract Catfish Creek Conservation Area are those of Fotheringham, 24 when she went missing.
Early in their investigation, London Police reported that her death was a homicide, and they proceeded to charge Antonio Valentin Resendez Cortez with second degree murder in April of 2016. At that time, Fotheringham's body had not been recovered.
Police say the two were known to each other at the time Fotheringham went missing.
The accused is still at large and there are reports he may have fled to Mexico.
The investigation is now a collaborative effort of The London Police Service Major Crime Section, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Mexican authorities to locate Resendez Cortez.
The lead detective on the case is expected to give a statement at 11:00 a.m. this morning at London Police Headquarters.
Anyone with information is asked to contact London Police at (519) 661-5670, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at www.cstip.ca.
