The City will spell out its position on pending 46-million-dollar sale of Woodstock Hydro to Hydro One.
WOODSTOCK -- The City of Woodstock is holding a pair of public information sessions Monday about the pending $46.2 million sale of Woodstock Hydro to Hydro One.
"What this meeting is all about is to say, 'Okay, we've done a deal, you'll probably have questions clarifying what happened,' but the deal still has to be approved by the Ontario Energy Board. That's about a six-month process," said Mayor Pat Sobeski.
Confidential negotiations with Hydro One prevented Woodstock from holding public input sessions prior to the sale, Sobeski said.
"You really can't go out before you have your vote and say, 'here's what they're offering us, give us your thoughts,' because Hydro One is out negotiating with other parties," he said.
The sale has yet to be approved by the Ontario Energy Board, a process that could take about six months. The OEB process, Sobeski said, is the venue for those opposed to the sale to voice their opinions.
The OEB conducts a, "no-harm test," Sobeski said. "The OEB as a regulator has to ensure there is no impact on cost to consumers," he said.
The public information sessions will take place at the Woodstock Community Complex in Goff Hall from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
