City Council will take another look at changing the by-law governing idling times in the Friendly City.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council will be taking another look at a potential new idling by-law on Thursday night.
If the new by-law is passed it would change allowable idling time from 5 minutes to just 2 minutes. Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch tells Heart FM they understand this by-law would be very difficult to enforce.
"Our by-law officers are called out to complaints, so the likelihood of someone calling and saying someone is idling too long at a business or a residence and us getting there on time is very slim, so part of this report is a bit of an advocacy campaign where we can get the message out to people and turn off the engine when they are not using the car."
Birtch says they would look to get the message out on the radio, through their What's On Woodstock magazine, and they might look at the possibility of installing some strategically placed signs. Birtch says this is all part of their plan to encourage people to go green.
"As with everything, I just ask people to be sensible and try to respect the environment and also for a lot of the short trips and errands that you would make with your car, you could also look at taking transit, walking or cycling and help take care of our city for generations to come."
