Ingersoll Woman Interns At Cannes Film Festival

Danica Oliva from Ingersoll was selected for an internship that sent her to cover the Cannes Film Festival in France.

INGERSOLL - Newly graduated from Western University, Danica Oliva has already walked the red carpet and rubbed shoulders with celebrities at the Cannes International Film festival in France. Oliva grew up in Ingersoll and pursued a degree in film studies at Western. She originally applied for an internship through the Creative Minds program, to her surprise she caught the attention of Film Market Access CEO Kirk Cooper who instead offered her an apprenticeship with FMA. Oliva says growing up in a small down has pushed her to work harder, "I think anyone who comes from a small town wants to reach beyond their town limits and absorb outlets that their town may not be able to provide."

"I knew I wanted to create content using a platform that would reach beyond Ingersoll. Youtube was my answer; it was a great way for me to push my portfolio." During the apprenticeship Oliva had the chance to mingle with filmmakers from around the world. "It was an environment I had never experienced before," says Oliva, "I have never met so many filmmakers in one place."

"One moment you are talking with a friendly person about their film and realize afterward that they are CEO of a production company as well."

Oliva says if she had to give aspiring Oxford County filmmakers some advice it would be, "Having people around you to encourage your work is the most important thing that I have ever gotten from my community in Ingersoll."
