Today marks International Women's Day and groups worldwide have been celebrating in a number of ways. Locally, IWD Committee held their Annual Celebration For and About Women at the CAW Hall this afternoon. Committee Member, Linda Armstrong says "today they come together to recognize the achievements that we have made in the first 101 years, and on a very positive note, there's still work to do. Women in parts of the world still are not allowed health care that they need, they are not allowed access to education but keeping in mind, today we recognize all the positives that we have achieved". The free event today included a complimentary chili lunch, Artisan Market Place, as well as demonstrations and presentations by a variety of services and agencies in Oxford County. Each year, women are nominated to be recognized for their work or involvement in the community. Armstrong says this year, five women were nominated and the committee chose Elizabeth Mayberry. Mayberry was presented with an award and the committee recognized the other four nominees during today's festivities.
