Oxford County Council signed off on a green bin contract and honoured a local paramedic.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council has signed off on a contract for green bin containers.
This means residents in Woodstock and South-West Oxford will receive a 45 litre green bin this fall, before organics collection begins next year.
Deputy Warden Brian Petrie says each resident will also receive a kitchen container.
"Lots of other communities have gone to this and that is an important aspect. The containers are a little bit larger, so having that smaller kitchen container makes it easier to make those little trips instead of a big one."
Organics collection will begin in other areas of the County in the spring of 2027, so residents in those areas will receive their green bin and kitchen container a few months prior.
Obris Canada limited will be supplying the green bins and kitchen containers for a price of $1,497,046 including HST.
A local paramedic was also honoured at the Oxford County Council meeting yesterday. Petrie says Ben Smith received the Medical Directors Commendation Award.
"325,000 calls in Ontario and he was chosen to be honoured with this award and he should have. We have a young baby that's alive."
Smith and his partner responded to a report of a newborn baby with no vital signs, but they saved its life after performing life saving measures. Petrie says we're lucky to have highly trained paramedics here in Oxford and Smith is a great example of that.
Deputy Warden Petrie also serves as the Mayor of Ingersoll. During his interview with Dan and Marcie this morning, he also discussed the following:
- A new grocery store that has opened in Ingersoll.
- How Ingersoll's Multi-Use Recreation Centre is progressing.
- The Good for the Soll Music Festival coming up in Ingersoll this August with headliner Sass Jordan.
- His plans to attend Breakfast on the Farm in Innerkip and Pride Family Day in Woodstock this Saturday.
- He also wished students in Oxford County a happy summer vacation and encouraged everyone to spend time their family this Father's Day.
