Current EZT Ward 1 Councillor seeks re-election in upcoming municipal election.
TAVISTOCK - Clive Lawry is looking to make it 12 years on East Zorra Tavistock Council.
The current Ward 1 councillor has filed papers for re-election.
"I've been on East Zorra Tavistock council for the past eight years and I think we have accomplished a great deal over that time. I know that our community today is a far better place to live then it was eight years ago when I got onto council and I want to continue to do that."
Lawry says his strongest attribute is his financial background.
"I am an accountant by profession. Municipal finance is an incredibly complex area. It takes a fair amount of time to really get up to speed on how the whole reserve system works and I have a very firm understanding of it. Again, we have been quite successful from the debt side. Our debt load is extremely low. Our reserves are extremely high."
Lawry says provincial cutbacks are among the big issues facing EZT going forward.
"The cuts have already begun to the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund among other things. Infrastructure grants, loans, etc. are becoming more challenging and more competitive. The second issue really is something that is near and dear to my heart. The energy challenges that we are all going to be facing with respect to rates, consolidations, the Green Energy Act and everything else."
