Need for council members who have knowledge of rural economy is one reason Don Lazenby seeks re-election.
EAST ZORRA TAVISTOCK - It's officially an election race for Ward 3 in East Zorra Tavistock.
Donald Lazenby filed papers for reelection earlier this month.
Lazenby says he is compelled to run for a second term for the same reasons he ran in 2010.
"We have two villages, Tavistock and Innerkip but the rural area, which most of our township is rural and the majority of our commerce is still in the rural area, I believe we need to have people who understand the rural economy."
Lazenby says EZA is experiencing good growth in the residential areas but the rural areas need some work.
"Do our planning policies that are in place today, will they take us into the next decades? They were set up a number of years ago and the rural economy has evolved tremendously over the last 20 years and I don't believe our planning policies have evolved at the same rate."
Lazenby says he brings a number of years as an educator, agriculturalist and farmer a combination he says brings the ability to solve problems and look into the future.
There are two spots up for grabs in Ward 3 with three candidates at this point.
