A Tillsonburg man will be the rink announcer at the Kraft Hockeyville game in Lucan tonight featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators.
LUCAN - The Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs are playing a preseason game in Lucan tonight.
Tillsonburg resident and Professor at the Woodstock Fanshawe Campus Eric Collins will be the rink announcer for the game. Collins has been in broadcasting sports since he was 17 years old and says being the rink announcer for a Leaf game is a pretty special moment for him.
"It really is a very almost surreal experience and it is extra special for me to because I will be able to share it with my parents and wife in the stands and my 15 month old son will be at the game too. For me it is going to be really special but at the end of the day, it's just one story in this big collective experience for everybody that is going to have a National Hockey League game in their home town. This is something that everybody in Lucan is going to be talking about for years and years to come."
He says the atmosphere in Lucan right now is electric.
"The buzz around the community itself is amazing. People who aren't even connected to the event are celebrating, store fronts are decorated in blue and white and a few showing support for the Senators as well. It really is an indescribable buzz around the community, especially with the kids who are going around very clearly supporting their favourite team. They are star eyed as they get to meet some of these NHL celebrities."
Lucan was selected for the game after winning the Kraft Hockeyville contest.
