Agropur Cooperative's milk recall left one Ingersoll family sick after drinking milk products that were taken off the shelves due to sanitizer contamination.
INGERSOLL - The recent milk recall from Agropur Cooperative has impacted one family from Ingersoll.
Ryan Young says his wife and 18-month-old daughter became ill after drinking milk last week, which was recalled due to sanitizer contamination.
Young says he noticed something was wrong after finding the recall online.
"I was sitting there going, 'Well we've been sick for the last three, four days.' And I sat there and I'm like, 'Is that why we've been all sick?' And I woke my wife up and I said, 'The baby was puking last night, right?' and she goes, ' Yeah.' Well those are symptoms of the contaminated milk. And I went through the garbage bag and I found the bag of milk that we had and it matched the serial code that was on the recall. And by that point my wife had given my daughter the rest of the milk the night before, not thinking anything of it."
He adds once they found out the milk was contaminated they went to the Ingersoll Hospital to figure out what was in it. After going to the hospital, he says they were told to make sure their daughter is hydrated and rested.
Young says his wife and daughter are resting and they're feeling much better now.
He says residents should message the company and ask them to inspect the milk.
"My biggest fear is what if it wasn't hand sanitizer, what if it was something a little more toxic? Yes it was hand sanitizer, that's not quite toxic I guess, but it could have been a lot worse. People could have been a lot sicker from this incident."
Certain milk products were recalled in Ontario and Quebec.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the recall involved Sealtest brand products and the L’ecole, c’est nourrissant brand.
The CFIA says if the recalled products are in your home, they should be thrown out or brought back to the store you purchased them from.
