Local Filmmaker Tells Sam George's Story

"Ipperwash Park" is a documentary that local filmmaker Monica Virtue has spent 10 years creating. The film follows Sam George, the brother of Dudley George; "when we began, Sam was in the middle of a huge lawsuit with the Ontario Provincial Police, former Premier Mike Harris and a bunch of other parties. The reason he had that lawsuit going is he was pushing to have a public inquiry called into his brother's death. He at the time wasn't getting any kind of answers, he felt, as to why his brother had been shot that night, and he said he just wanted to know the truth about it. I followed Sam with a camera all those years showing what he went through to get at the truth". It was a period of six years that Virtue spent with Sam. Thus far, Virtue has funded the film on her own and is hoping to raise $25,000 to help with the post-production costs including sound, purchasing stock footage and hiring an editor. She says hiring an editor is important to her as she wants someone to assist with the final product who has no attachment to the story; someone who can look at her footage and make hard decisions. Virtue says she is too emotionally attached to the film to make those decisions. To help raise the funds, she is set up online where you can donate using a credit card or Paypal. Click here to be directed to her personal page. Virtue will also have an information booth at the Kettle Point Pow Wow this weekend. She says pow wows are an amazing experience and encourages people to come and see it first hand.
