Local Police Briefs - Tuesday January 17th

Local police briefs include a two-vehicle crash in Perth East and a Kijiji related fraud investigation in Woodstock.

PERTH EAST - Minor injuries have been reported after a two-vehicle crash in Perth East Township.

It happened in the area of Line 29 and Road 111 and the Perth OPP got the call shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Both of the drivers had to be taken to hospital and a 30-year-old from Woodstock has been charged with failing to yield to traffic on through highway.

WOODSTOCK - A 24-year-old has been arrested after Woodstock Police responded to a vehicle theft in progress.

Officers were called out to the area of Light Street and Hunter Street shortly before 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.

They found their suspect once they arrived on scene. The Woodstock resident has been charged with theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order (other than to attend court).

WOODSTOCK - A 21-year-old from Woodstock has found themself in hot water after being pulled over by police in their hometown.

Officers stopped pulled them over at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.

They're now facing several impaired driving-related charges including operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 and novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration over zero.

WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service is investigating after someone fell victim to a fraud while trying to buy a vehicle online.

Police say the victim put a deposit down on a vehicle that they found on Kijiji. The ad was taken down afterward and when they went to pick it up, the owners knew nothing about the online ad.

Police say you should always be cautious whenever you buy something online through Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace. You should never send someone a deposit before actually seeing the item in person.
