Cancer Care Ontario estimated that alcohol caused up to 3000 cases of cancer in Ontario in 2010.
OXFORD COUNTY - As people continue to work on their 2015 New Year resolutions, Oxford Public Health is offering some advise on how to live a healthier lifestyle.
Rebecca Wallace, Public Health Nurse, says cutting back on your consumption of alcohol can lower the risk of colorectal, breast and liver cancers as well as head and neck cancers. "We want Oxford County residents to know that by decreasing the amount of alcohol that you drink each day, for women less than one drink a day and for men less than two drinks a day will reduce the risk of cancer."
Wallace highlights that only one third of Canadians know that reducing alcohol reduces the risk for cancer.
As part of the Rethink Your Drinking campaign, helping change the way we think about and use alcohol, Wallace offers some tips on how to limit consumption of alcohol. "Plan to have at least two non drinking alcohol days a week so that you're less likely to form a habit. You can drink slowly so try and drink no more than two drinks in three hours and for every drink, try to have a non-alcoholic drink in between."
