Warden Don McKay is encouraging men to get tested for prostate cancer, before it's too late.
OXFORD COUNTY- "You buy a lottery ticket thinking that you might win and you do your prostate test hoping you never win." Since 2004, East-Zorra Tavistock Mayor Don McKay has been a prominent figure on the political landscape in his home town of East-Zorra Tavistock and as Warden for Oxford County Council. Just a few weeks after happily being acclaimed as East-Zorra Tavistock Mayor, McKay was delt with devastating news. McKay, father of teenage girls underwent a test for prostate cancer,"Mine came up as cancerous and I will be undergoing treatment." He is encouraging other men to get it done, don't wait, "go and get tested, I had heard that challenge for several years before I stopped and got tested." Treatment will begin shortly and McKay is confident about the prognosis, "I am very optimistic that in the care that we have and the support from family and friends that I will be able to stand as a cancer survivor also."
In light of the recent Terry Fox Run's that have been going on within the community McKay extends a thank you to those that "have contributed to the Terry Fox Run, every dollar is helpful."
