Oxford County's new CAO comes from the GTA. Peter Crockett will start on October 29th, after working 31-years in the municipal sector. He has extensive experience in the Planning and Public Works side of management in Halton, Peel, Hamilton and Toronto. He says taking over as Oxford County's CAO is a big career and lifestyle opportunity, and believes his skills are a "really good fit" for Oxford. He tells Heart FM why he wanted to come to Oxford County from the GTA. "I saw it as a real opportunity from a career standpoint, from a lifestyle standpoint and I saw a really nice fit with myself and what I thought that Oxford County Council was looking for. And as we went through the process it became clearer and clearer to me that my skills and what Warden MacKay and council was looking for was a really good fit." We asked him what the biggest adjustment would be coming from a larger to a smaller municipal centre. "Regardless of size, all the municipalities are facing similar issues. I've worked in the two-tier structure previously in my career. I understand the relationships and partnerships between the area municipalities and the County. I guess the key difference will be me getting engrained into the County of Oxford and understanding the different issues in Oxford." Among the issues Crockett has to catch up on is the proposed landfill in Beachville. He said he wasn't familiar with that issue yet. Naturally, Crockett is eager to get into his new role, and new community. "From what I've seen, it's a very proud organization that I'm going to enjoy working with."
