Seniors will have help with their process to long-term care thanks to a new program.

OXFORD COUNTY - A new program at Woodingford Lodge is looking to ease seniors into their changes in life.

The Transitional Program is meant for seniors making big changes in their life, such as moving into long-term care.

Seniors in the program will be eased into the change to help with stress and to slow the mental impacts.

Mark Dagger, Supervisor of Behaviour Supports at Woodingford Lodge describes the new program.

"So the transition program will help individuals who are moving into long-term care to ensure that their needs are met preemptively before coming into a home. This program will allow the individual the opportunity, and their spouse and family, to come attend the home, to have an idea and a feel at what long-term care is before actual omission day."

County Council showed their support for the program at their council meeting last week.

Paul Beaton, Director of Human Services for Oxford County was excited about the program.

"We want to expand that program, offer it to other long-term care facilities in the community and apply other staff resources that exist currently about the transition of people from one type of setting to another; whether it's from home to long-term care or hospitals to retirement homes"

They want to celebrate seniors not losing who they are during this time of change.
