OXFORD COUNTY - Local fisherman are loving the recent cold snap as it means they can actually head out on the ice this year.
With this in mind, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority does not recommend ice fishing this winter on any of their properties.
Communications Specialist Eleanor Heagy says they don't want to see anyone on the ice fishing at their reservoirs.
"We do not check ice thickness at all, so their is no one checking to see if it would be safe or not."
Heagy says the ice levels can fluctuate which makes it dangerous to go ice fishing on their reservoirs.
"The reservoirs that we have at Pittock, Wildwood and Fanshawe, they are designed so that they would fluctuate, the water levels all go up and down a little bit. When that happens the water at the edges moves, the ice at the edges can be much thinner than you think it should be, so you can have some really unstable ice, especially along the edges."
