Stratford Police ended up using a taser on a man after he tried to take the officers gun. The man just had eaten a full 185 gram cannabis edible chocolate bar, which is way above the recommended use.
STRATFORD - Stratford Police were called to help EMS to a call early Sunday morning.
The person had reportedly consumed a large amount of cannabis edibles and was in need of help. Officers arrived to find the man lying on the ground in his underwear.
When the officer and the paramedics attempted to assist the male, he became combative and assaulted the officer. As the officer made effort to gain control of the male to prevent being assaulted further, the male attempted to remove the officer’s pistol from the holster.
The officer was able to use a taser to subdue the man and place him under arrest. Only minor injuries to both the officer and the 40-year-old male were sustained during the altercation.
The man was taken to the hospital for a medical assessment and was released several hours later.
As a result of the incident, he was charged with Assault Peace Officer, Assault with Intent to Resist, and Attempt to Disarm a Peace Officer.
The man had consumed a full 185 gram cannabis chocolate bar, which is well above the recommended amount of that product.
The Stratford Police are hoping that this incident can act as an important reminder to follow Health Canada’s recommendation of “Start low and go slow” when it comes to cannabis edibles. Be sure to read labels carefully and be patient when consuming cannabis edibles as they may take up to two hours to take effect.
