Norwich Merchants Head Coach Keli Corpse will return to the bench for the upcoming PJHL season.
NORWICH - The head coach of the Norwich Merchants will be back on the bench for the upcoming PJHL season.
Keli Corpse just finished serving a one-year suspension for alleged tampering. His son Colt Corpse invited some hockey players, including a couple from the Woodstock Navy Vets, to skate with him during the off-season back in May of 2022.
After finding out about the suspension, Keli Corpse tried to file an appeal through the PJHL but failed, so he filed another appeal through the Ontario Hockey Federation.
We spoke with Corpse in February of 2023 and you can read the full story online here. When asked about the suspension, OHF Executive Director Philip McKee issued the following statement to Heart FM:
"The appeal is submitted and it is in the process. Our process is two steps. First is a determination if it qualifies and second if it qualifies for a hearing. At this point, it is still to be determined if it qualifies for a hearing."
According to a recent article in the London Free Press, the OHF has since determined that the accusations are baseless and ordered all records of this punishment to be expunged.
The Norwich Merchants finished the 2022/2023 PJHL regular season in third place in the Doherty Division, behind the second place New Hamburg Firebirds and the first place Wellesley Applejacks. Their season ended in late March after they suffered a 5-2 loss to the Applejacks and lost the best-of-seven semifinal series 4-1.
