Ontario electricity rates have changed - on peak now costs 16.1 cents per kilowatt hour, while off peak is nearly half that.
ONTARIO - On peak hour electricty will now cost more.
Residents of Ontario will notice a change in their electricity bills as the on-peak rate is now 16.1 cents per kilowatt hour. The off peak rate is approximately half that at 8 cents.
The time to avoid is 11a.m. until 5p.m. on weekdays. Weekends and holidays are considered off-peak. The Ontario Energy Board say holding off on any major electricity consumption, such as using a washing machine, until the weekend will see you saving on your next bill.
The OEB say the 2:1 ratio change should amount to a $5.71 increase on the average household bill.
Opposition parties predict rates will only continue to climb as the Liberals begin selling off 60% of Hydro One.
