The Seniors Community Grant Program will receive up to 3 million dollars from the provincial government.
WOODSTOCK - The provincial government has announced funding for the Seniors Community Grant Program.
The program will see up to $3 million invested in grants to non-profit community organizations and cities across Oxford County and Ontario.
Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman says as the number of seniors continues to increase, the government will help them be able to be independent in their communities.
"We know that the number of seniors citizens in our community is growing steadily every year. Seniors built this province and our government is committed to helping them live independently in the communities they love."
He says the program is designed to better suit the needs of senior citizens.
"This year's program is also designed to better support the unique needs of seniors living in rural communities. That is why this program will make a positive difference to organizations in Oxford who want to improve services for the seniors in our communities."
The provincial government made the announcement in a press release last week. The release says many seniors live on a fixed income, which can make it hard to access programs and services that are affordable and they depend on to stay connected to their community.
Community groups can apply for funding, ranging anywhere from $1,000 up to $25,000.
Larger incorporated organizations also will have access to a one time window application service through Grants Ontario. This website will be for organizations seeking a grant from application to approval. The application period runs from May 17 until June 27.
