Ontario Extending Mask Mandates for High Risk Settings

Mask mandates will remain at hospitals, LTC homes, and public transit until June 11th.

The Ontario government has extended the mask mandates in high-risk settings until June 11th.

All mask mandates in the Province were previously set to expire April 27th. The high-risk settings include hospitals, long-term care homes, retirement homes, shelters, congregate care settings that provide care and services to medically and socially vulnerable individuals, and public transit.

Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore says these moves are necessary to help deal with the current wave of COVID-19.

"To protect our progress in managing this latest wave, I am maintaining masking requirements in specific public settings where individuals who are, or may be, at increased risk of severe outcomes, are in close contact for extended periods of time. Continuing to follow masking requirements and keeping up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations are the best ways we can prevent transmission and protect our friends, families, and our communities."
