The OPP are getting ready for an annual campaign targeting preventable deaths.
Constable Stacey Culbert says scores of people have died due to speeding, not wearing a seat belt, driving while impaired, and driving while distracted.
"Alcohol and drugs tend to be around the 300 - 320 mark in the last five year. Inattentive driving is also one of those ones that is on the rise as well."
In fact, police are noticing a very disturbing trend according to Culbert.
"Over the last 5 years we've had over 1,500 people die in road deaths on OPP patrolled roads - so that's between 2011 and 2015, but looking back the vast majority are preventable."
Operation Impact will be targeting the big four areas, and multiple police units will be taking part in the campaign.
