Operation Northern Spotlight Saves 16 People

Operation Northern Spotlight which includes the Stratford Police has rescued 16 people from the human trafficking sex trade.

STRATFORD - Stratford Police have arrested 4 people as part of the Operation Northern Spotlight into human trafficking. 

Members from 36 police forces across Ontario are part of the joint investigation that is trying to stop the human trafficking sex trade in the Province. This  is the fifth installment of Operation Northern Spotlight and over a six day period, officers charged 25 people with 67 offences. Police were also able to ensure the safety of 16 who had been working in the sex trade as a minor or against their will. 

Charges including trafficking in persons under 18, Trafficking in Persons, Procure Sexual Services under 18, Procure Sexual Services, Receive Material Benefit under 18, Receive Material Benefit, Communicate for the Purpose of Obtaining for Consideration the Sexual Services of a Person, Exercise Control, Make Child Pornography, Distribute Child Pornography, Possess Child Pornography, Child Luring, Advertise Another Person's Sexual Services, Assault, Obstruct Police, Resist Arrest, Weapons Dangerous, various Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) and Failure to Comply with Court Orders and Conditions including Breaches of Recognizance and Probation. 

The charges in the Stratford Arrests include Obstruct Police, Resist Arrest and drug charges. 

Inspector Sam Theocaris says this is all part of the Stratford Polices mandate to fight human trafficking.

"The Stratford Police is committed to fighting Human Trafficking and working with our community partners and other police services to help and protect victims of Human Trafficking."
