OXFORD - The West Region OPP is in the midst of Operation Safe Driver.
It's a national traffic safety campaign that's led by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, and it targets the leading contributing factors that lead to commercial motor vehicle (CMV) collisions. Inspector Gene Laarman, the Traffic Safety and Marine Manager for the West Region OPP says this includes speeding, improper lane changes, and following too closely.
"It is every driver's responsibility to share our roads safely. This is particularly important when large commercial vehicles are present."
The West Region OPP investigated more than 1,411 crashes involving commercial vehicles in 2025, which resulted in 208 injuries and 23 deaths.
Operation Safe Driver started on Sunday and it will end this Saturday.
