The 10th anniversary of the Food for Friends thanksgiving quarter matching drive was a huge success.
WOODSTOCK - The Operation Sharing Food for Friends Quarter Matching program was another huge success this year.
Over $5,000 was raised during the 10th annual thanksgiving campaign at the Sobeys in Woodstock and Foodland stores in Ingersoll and Woodstock. Every quarter donated during the thanksgiving season was matched by the grocery chains and the corporate store chipped in another $5,000 bringing the grand total to $10,328 this year.
Store Operator of the Woodstock Sobeys Ryan Daly tells Heart FM they were amazed by the support from the community once again.
"I think this year we really put an emphasis on it during thanksgiving, the last couple of years it slowed down a bit but this year we were able to almost quadruple our numbers thanks to the donations from the community."
Owner operator of the Woodstock Foodland Chris Chapman echoed those statements and explains why they continue to support Food for Friends.
"Because it is a terrific program, it's good for the community, it treats the people in Woodstock who need a little bit of extra help with respect and we are just happy to help out."
Every single penny donated back into the Food for Friends program is put onto food cards for those less fortunate in our community. They do not have administration fees which is why they can give 100 percent of the quarters you donate at grocery stores in our community back into the Food for Friends program.
