The $50,000 is coming from the Growing Future Opportunities Initiative.
OXFORD COUNTY - A local apple producer here in Oxford County is getting $50,000 in government funding.
The provincial and federal governments are supporting 128 apple, tender fruit and table grape producers across the province through the Growing Future Opportunities Initiative.
It's a $4.4 million investment and the money is coming from the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership. Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman says it's supposed to help these producers grow new, popular and resilient varieties of fruit.
"This funding is an important investment in Ontario’s agriculture industry. We are providing funding to local apple producers to help them adapt to shifting consumer preferences and stay competitive in the marketplace."
The Oxford County based apple producer that is benefitting from this program was not named in the press release sent out by Hardeman's office yesterday.
