Oxford County is exploring new technology to help them achieve their Zero Waste Goal.
OXFORD COUNTY - Enhanced Material Recovery and Biological Treatment could help Oxford County achieve their Zero Waste goal.
Warden David Mayberry talks a little bit about the technology discussed at the public meeting that was held on Wednesday to get feedback from the public.
"There are two technologies. One will be around doing a better job sorting and making sure we are getting all the recyclables out. The other is around how do we process the material that's left and get all of the organics out of it as well. There are a number of technologies out there available. We have studied 7 different styles or classes of technology and tonight we are going to be presenting one of those, not a particular company or anything like that but just a strategy we think will be successful in our County to address the needs."
Dozens of people attended the meeting while it was also broadcast online so others could participate from home. They are looking to hear back from the public before they go ahead with the new technology.
Mayberry adds how the new technology could help our landfills.
"There are various technologies and treatments that we can use and in that we are hoping to get at least 90% of what is now garbage going into the landfill out of the landfill to be reclaimed for further purposes. Primarily the organics which is everything from house hold waste like the vegetables, that sort of thing in your home, to wood and paper, that sort of thing, and also try to enhance the recyclables that we collect."
The gallery was full of members of the OPAL Alliance as well who changed their meeting so they could attend.
