Oxford County Hospitals Dealing with Staff Shortages and COVID-19

A total of 29 COVID-19 in patients are at the hospitals in Oxford County right now, including 5 people in the ICU.

WOODSTOCK - The three hospitals in Oxford County are dealing with staff shortages related to COVID-19.

CEO and President of Woodstock Hospital Perry Lang says they have over 100 staff off right now.

"We currently have approximately 1100 staff at the Woodstock Hospital, currently there is 92 staff off with COVID or they have been identified as high risk of contact and waiting for COVID test results. So overall that is 8 percent of our staff."

Lang notes all staff are vaccinated and no staff have had to go to the hospital.

"We are very fortunate here at the Woodstock Hospital to have all staff double vaccinated and many staff have been triple vaccinated or third dose vaccinated and it is because of that all staff who have tested positive have had very minor symptoms and to my knowledge, no staff have had to seek further treatment."

As for COVID-19 patients at the hospital. Woodstock currently has 14 COVID positive in patients, of those 14 patients, 4 are in the ICU and 2 of those 4 are vented.

Meanwhile at the Tillonsoburg District Memorial Hospital they have 5 COVID-19 in patients including 1 in the ICU. They are missing 8 percent of staff, who are out with the virus or exposure. Ingersoll remains in outbreak,  10 in patients have COVID-19 and they are missing 8 staff due to COVID and or exposure.

AHI TDMH Interim President and CEO Mike Bastow says all three hospitals have been working together to get through this 5th wave.

"I want to recognize and this is where we are working as a system as opposed to a silo, I want to recognize Woodstock under Perry's leadership for immediately coming to the table to assist us, we are extremely thankful for their partnership during this time and we have moved new admissions over to Woodstock and we couldn't do that if we weren't working as a system."

AHI is hopeful they will be able to declare the outbreak over this week.
